Walsingham House

CQC REGISTERED

WALSINGHAM HOUSE HAS BEEN FORCED TO CLOSE DUE TO A LACK OF REFERRALS AND SUBSEQUENT FUNDING.

CURRENTLY WE ARE EXPLORING ALTERNATIVE OPTIONS AND FUNDING TO RE-OPEN THIS VALUABLE RESOURCE.

Walsingham House is a ‘first stage’ abstinence based resource (residential rehab) for up to 15 people with a substance dependency. We target people with a housing need and aim to provide support for housing, benefits and debt issues too.

Treatment is based on the ‘12 Step’ philosophy and on the acceptance of the goal of complete abstinence. We also operate an integrated Dual Diagnosis service for appropriately assessed clients.

We target clients who come from chaotic backgrounds including general health, mental health, unstable housing and criminal justice. We provide an intensive, structured yet nurturing environment to empower clients to recover from their addiction. Placements last 8 weeks.

Our programme is managed by a qualified team of counsellors and support staff (all DANOS mapped) and we engage a mental health specialist and a clinical psychiatrist for the dual diagnosis element.

Walsingham House rehab service:

  • is person centred
  • promotes a way of life that is free from all mood altering substances
  • shows people healthy ways of coping with the stresses of life
  • encourages people to deal with issues in the here & now
  • enables self acceptance,  self confidence, and self worth
  • develops self responsibility and an appropriate concern for others

Clear structures and boundaries provide safety and security in early recovery. During treatment residents will be involved in psycho-social support including one-to-one counselling, group therapy, relapse prevention, educational and health workshops (including BBV advice) and ongoing support from staff and peers. This is designed to equip them with the tools to enable them to make the necessary changes to break the vicious cycle of substance dependence.

The treatment programme emphasises honesty, trust, responsibility and respect. In an appropriate therapeutic environment individuals can change and become healthier.

Service Users are consulted throughout their stay, both individually in one to one sessions and in house group meetings.

Clients are allocated a focal counsellor who will liaise closely with the local authority Care Manager.

Individual treatment and support plans are collaboratively prepared with the client and are informed by the Care Plan.

The focus in Walsingham House is primarily on addiction. Other issues may surface such as grief and loss issues, psychological problems, a lack of social and life skills, financial or housing problems, abuse issues and interpersonal / relationship difficulties. Clear and calculated assessments about which matters to address at this stage will be agreed.

Reviews are conducted regularly and in line with the local authority Care Manager’s requirements. Partnership working and close communication with the Care Manager are essential aspects of service delivery.

Alongside the treatment planning general support is provided via individual support plans which include:

  • health needs
  • nutritional needs
  • housing issues
  • benefits advice
  • financial issues – including debt advice
  • general, social and life skills development
  • planning for the future

These are reviewed with the client on a regular basis and updated as required.
NDTMS data (including TOP) is recorded and uploaded for each client.
NTA guidelines are followed.
