I just wanted to say...

When I got to Walsingham House I couldn't talk. I was traumatised and very damaged and did not trust anyone. I was cared for and given so much help and support in that place and most of all i got hope that I could live without alcohol. The treatment I received was priceless and saved my life.  CQ - 2012

Amazing Achievement

Over the period of the current renovation and building work I have been amazed at the volume of scaffolding used. I would be interested to know how much scaffolding has been used in the buidling work especially as you can only see the exterior scaffolding.

Even more amazing is the fact that the whole of the Priory building were built in the 12th Century. How did they manage the scaffolding requirements then??

I will be very keen to visit the renovated site once all the work has been completed.

Well Done

What a stunning building. Well done to all those involved in upgrading and maintaining this historic building. For a City Centre site it is so quiet and peaceful.

Closure of Walsingham House

Submitted by:  Jacky from Glasgow

I am an ex-resident (2010) of Walsingham House which gave me a firm foundation on which to build my recovery.  I was shocked to hear that it had closed recently as it was the only wholly residential first stage treatment centre for people with addiction problems in Bristol and provided an essential service.

A Hidden Gem

Submitted by:  JE

I came across this fantastic building by chance as  I was walking around while waiting for a bus.

It is an amazing 12th century church (the oldest in Bristol apparently) hidden away next to the Bus Station which has been restored and renovated recently. It is so quiet and peaceful and there is a very special feeling to it.

There is also a very welcome, bright and clean cafe that serves excellent coffee..

The blessings of a Holy place

Submitted by:  Neil Penalosa

At first, I was kind of scared/ apprehensive, being in an old quiet church. But, then, realizing that the Holy Spirit dwells in the place, had provided some sense of comfort and serenity. What amazed me as well was the fact that a faithful would perceive some kind of inner peace, with the 24 hour vigil candles in the altar area.

The illumination inside the church, truly promotes tranquility, a haven of rest amidst the surrounding sound of the city.
